BIO

A typographer with international acclaim, with works exhibited in New York and the Netherlands. Atrissi’s work has been published in books and magazines worldwide, and is a multiple award winner for his art. He is also a lecturer and professor, and is chief principal of his own design studio based in the Netherlands.

Arabic Lettering & Type Design

Between the art of classic Arabic calligraphy and the contemporary digital Arabic type design, lies the discipline of Arabic lettering, a task often in the hand of graphic designers in the context of branding, logo design and masthead design. Day 1 of this workshop will focus on the Arabic word and explore in theory and practice the creative possibilities of Arabic lettering.

Day 2 will focus on the relationship of Arabic and Latin type within the context of logo design. Day 3 will take the results of Days 1 and 2 and use them as a base to expand into the area of typeface design.
